You can also use this course to satisfy the training requirement for a Florida non-resident permit, which will allow you to carry in Georgia. Details here.

You will need the following for this course:

  • At least 100 rounds of ammunition for your handgun.
  • Eye and ear protection.
  • A pen and a 1″ 3-ring binder.
  • A baseball type cap or a hat with a wide rim.
  • A strong side holster (i.e., the holster is on your right side if you are right handed). No cross-draw, shoulder, or small-of-back holsters are allowed on the range because of safety issues.
  • A belt for use with your holster. Please note: the belt MUST pass through the belt loops on your pants.

I recently completed the CWP Course and enjoyed the experience very much. Best $100 I’ve spent in quite some time. While I was fairly good with my firearm before the training, I learned how to be more consistent and more accurate from the course. It also taught me the fundamentals of firearm safety which is very high on my list of priorities for owning a gun. I recommend this course for anyone, but especially those with little or limited experience that need to learn the fundamentals.

As you know, I had never fired a firearm in my life prior to your class and had only held a pistol once. Your class was so informative. I appreciated how you stuck with the facts and let us make up our minds on firearms based on the facts. The high regard for continued safety made me feel comfortable shooting for the first time…and hopefully continued times practicing at the range. Thanks again for a great class. I highly recommend it for everyone.

I took Alex’s CWP course and loved it. He is a truly great, and patient, teacher. I found him to be very knowledgeable and encouraging. I was talking to a friend the other day who, unfortunately for her, had already taken the course somewhere else and she had a much different experience. It made me appreciate Alex’s enthusiasm even more. Thanks Alex!

If you live in S.C. (anywhere in S.C.- because it IS worth the drive) and wish to obtain your concealed weapons permit and/ or truely learn how to use your handgun safely and efficiently, then Alex is your man. I just took his CWP Course and it was probably one of the best things I have ever done for myself. The class was not only extremely informative, but also quite enjoyable. Alex’s great personality and enthusiastic teaching style made the time fly by in the 10 hour course. I have owned and shot handguns prior to taking the class, but now I feel totally reborn as a gun owner. Even if you think you know quite a bit about shooting, I guarantee that you will learn something new within the first hour. If you own a gun, you owe it to yourself to take this course. I will definately be taking more classes from Alex and will be recommending him to all my friends.

Excellent course, without a doubt. Informative, helpful, and fun. Worth every minute and every penny. If you are seriously considering CWP or further handgun training, Alex is the go-to man.

Before knowing Alex and taking his CWP class, I was afraid of guns. He has very good gun skills and also a gift for teaching. His class was very informative. He provided me a very valuable fundamental knowledge of gun safety, shooting techniques and the South Carolina gun laws. Now, I own a gun with a CWP :-). Thank you very much Alex!
I highly recommend his courses to everyone, especially to new shooters.

Prior to the 5/17 class, I hadn’t fired a weapon since Basic training in the Air Force in 1969, Alex made the experience comfortable and natural. The class was extremely informative and raised my awareness of firearm safety considerably! He answered a lot of my questions and cleared up a lot of misconceptions you get from watching all those shoot-em-up shows on TV.

I would highly recommend this course for all new gun owners whether or not you are applying for a CWP.

Thanks Alex, and I’ll try to remember to keep my finger out of the trigger guard or I’ll be sending you more dollars!

Alex is terrific. He is an excellent instructor. Both his classroom and his shooting instruction are comprehensive and expertly presented. You can not go wrong with Alex as your guide.

All I can say is: your money will be well spent! Besides all the great reasons to get weapons/CWP training in the first place, Alex is a great instructor because he’s a great teacher, and you’ll feel relaxed and not afraid to ask questions about the law to the pros and cons of different guns.

This was a great class. The information on cwp along with the gun knowledge was right on track for me. Also the one on one class participation with the q/a made things alot easier. Gun safety was also a big part. You can’t talk enough about this. If you are looking for a cwp class to take, this is it. There is no reason to look anywhere else. Thanks Alex. This was the best.

On 3 July 2009, I attended and completed the CWP Course.
I highly recommend it for anyone looking to meet the requirements for obtaining a CWP or learning basic shooting with revolvers or semi-automatics.

You are going to have to listen up, take a written test and do some shooting to get that SLED certificate and completed application. Alex is a professional instructor, who has created an excellent, modern slide presentation, with clear instructions, illustrations and hands on training.

The classroom portion was completed in a modern air conditioned room, the range has recently constructed and maintained facilities. The firing ranges themselves are profesionally constructed, well housed and maintained. Alex insured a safe class room and range environment, especially during the individual completion of live fire training.

Alex is a well spoken instructor, who is polite, courteous and knows his stuff. He’s not an Old Drill Sergeant type, but he gets it done.

I’m a 59 year old, retired USAF Veteran, who spent a lot of time on some firing ranges. I still do. I was looking for a small, professional taught class, with a safe environment to meet the requirements to obtain a CWP. If my wife ever decides to carry, I’d send her to be taught by Alex.

I attended the Aug.2 class with Alex. It was great! He is the BEST in this field. I really enjoyed the class. I am a woman Veteran and a former Drill Sergeant. I have much respect for this guy. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND WOMEN TO TAKE HIS CLASS!!

I really enjoyed your class and I appreciate the personal investment that you have made into a very serious period of instruction. I can only hope that every CWP trainer is as passionate and/or proficient as yourself. I spent the last six years as an active duty member of “the old gun club” known as the United States Marine Corps. As an Infantryman, I was given an ample opportunity to put rounds down range in both Afghanistan (two deployments) and Iraq (one deployment). As a result, I have grown rather comfortable with the assurance of a “peacemaker” within arms reach. After meeting my beautiful young bride I figured it was time to “grow up” and get a normal job (albeit, not nearly as exciting). Fortunately, thanks to your course, I am now able to legally provide a similar level of peace and security for my own family.
    Thanks, Rad

Who would have guessed a PhD would have been such a down to earth guy…
I attended the CWP class on 2 Jan 2010 and really enjoyed it. I am not a novice when it comes to firearms, I have grown up around them all my life, hunting, target shooting, and everything in between and I still learned A LOT.

The approach Alex takes with a smaller class size really benefits everyone compared to those larger classes out there. I wanted a more personal hands on experience which is what he delivers. With only 4 people in our class there was a perfect balance of fun and learning. He is very competent and very intelligent. All I have to say is…imagine you are the only person in the class that has ever laid their hands on a handgun, how many people do you want to be surrounded by???

Bottom line…GREAT CLASS, don’t even bother with those others.

I learned a lot and it was fun! Alex takes this class seriously, which is what you want if you desire quality instruction and information. Looking forward to finishing up at the range and then purchasing my first firearm. Then, I’ll sign up for another class! Thanks Alex!

This class does what it advertises it will! Alex emphasized safety at all stages of the course, provided personalized hands-on training, explained the law, and provided numerous examples, scenarios, and anecdotes. And it was never boring! Thoroughly enjoyable! And I feel safer for having taken this course.

Taking this class has thought me A LOT!!! Alex is a very patient, competent and dedicated instructor and I am glad I took his course. It was GREAT!
He takes time to answer all your questions and his strong belief in gun safety made me feel comfortable and safe at the range.
This was the first time I held or fired a gun and I must say it was a cool experience. I have learnd a lot about gun safety, SC laws, CWP as well as self-awareness.

Alex is an awesome Instructor and I recommend his class to anyone.
    Thank you Alex.

I had taken two courses with Alex on basic gun safety and handling, and CWP laws and regulations, in September and in November 2010. Both were great learning experiences. I had served the national military service in my native country, and later served in the police reserve forces – but had not handled a firearm for almost 25 years. Alex provided an excellent new perspective and skills, and was altogether an outstanding instructor. I highly recommend his courses.

I have recently completed Alex Nieuwland’s CWP course and would recommend it unequivocally to anyone concerned about being victimized in today’s world. Alex brings to the subject a wealth of information and experience along with a natural aptitude for teaching. The material was presented in a very pleasant, relaxed environment and covered a great deal more than the basics required for a permit. Sign up with Alex. You will not be disappointed!

I just took the CWP course with and I would definitely recommend taking this course with Alex to anyone who is looking to obtain their CWP. I was a novice when I came to this class, but with the knowledge and skill I obtained in the class I feel more comfortable than ever with my firearm. Alex took his time, explained everything thoroughly and went above and beyond in educating and training us. I will be signing up for more courses with Alex in the future. He’s a great instructor!!!

This Course was far better than I could ever have imagined it to be. Going into the course, I felt fairly familiar with handguns and their us. However, I quickly realized how much more there is to learn, and especially the finer details of the correct and safe use. I would recommend this course to EVERY person who is considering buying a weapon, owns one already, or has a spouse with a weapon. In other words, this class will benefit everyone regardless if they are seeking a CWP or not.

My wife and I just completed the CWP course with Alex and found it to be very helpful and knowledgable. I would highly reccomend this course to anyone looking to own a handgun. I thought I knew the proper mechanics of handgun use until I took this course. My wife had never fired a handgun until taking this course and Alex did a phenomenal job in teaching her. Sign up for the course, I promise you will not be dissapointed.

I HIGHLY recommend Alex as an instructor to anyone who wants to apply for a CWP or to enhance their military firearm skills. I’m a female service member in a combat service support (CSS) role who had annual training over the years on the M16A2 and M4, but did not feel this was adequate for my personal “comfort level” for an upcoming deployment. Alex knows and trains for defense and survival. His expertise with firearms, to include the M4, M9 pistol and AK-47 is commendable. The hours on the firing range with basic marksmanship skills, defense tactics and “thinking outside the box” to what could happen with an enemy encounter are skills that are invaluable while deployed to a combat zone or at home protecting my family. Thank you Alex for your superior instruction. I will always be grateful.

It was my pleasure to participate in Alex’s course yesterday. He was meticulous in his attention to detail, presented the information in a clear and concise manner, and obviously was a pro in the depth of his knowledge and accomplishments. His approach was personal, friendly, but also focused and helpful. I hope to take some additional courses with him in the near future. Thanks Alex, for a great experience.

I attended Alex’s CWP class on June 9; Alex is the best, most informative firearms instructor I’ve ever met. I had already taken a CWP course many years ago, so by SC Concealed Carry Laws I didn’t need to ever take training again; however if you want to be a safe, responsible gun owner and receive the knowledge and training you need to protect your families, friends, innocent bystanders, or your own life, if ever confronted by such an unavoidable situation, Alex is by far the best trainer to teach you what you need to know. I highly recommend Alex’s courses, and I will definitely be taking more myself. Thanks Alex!

I am writing in review of Alex’s June 9th CWP class. Alex is a very knowledgeable teacher with lots of patience. Our ten hour class ended up being eleven and was crammed full of information and plenty of range time to prepare for and complete the range testing required for certification. Alex took time with each of us to address any problems or questions that we had. Since I was the only one with a hi power firearm, Alex took the time to explain differences and adapt exercises to make my time on the range useful plus make it a learning experience for the other people attending. I have been a gun owner for less than two months and was worried that I was not ready to successfully complete this class. At the end of the day, I left the class qualified to apply for my CWP, with a greater knowledge base, and the most comfortable I’ve ever been handling a firearm. I would highly recommend this class to anyone wishing to acquire their CWP and especially those with limited knowledge and experience with firearms.

I am a 62 year old woman who has arthritis in my hands who took Alex’s CWP course this weekend. It is the first time that I EVER held a gun nor tried to shoot one. Alex’s patience with me was very much appreciated. While difficult to place my fingers in the right position, it took awhile for me to be comfortable with the gun and to aim at never mind shot the target. At the end of the session, my husband, Bill, was calling me Annie Oakley and Alex had survived the day without any bodily harm. We laughed and worked hard and I now can say that I am comfortable with the weapon we choose and my ability to shot it. Now practice, practice, practice. Thanks, Alex, again, you are terrific. You know your stuff and more importantly how to communicate it. All the best.

As a veteran of 28+ years and having lived with and used firearms my entire life I didn’t expect to learn much except the law (which I did). However, Alex fixed problems with my small arms shooting that had existed for years due to faulty methods. He really knows what he is doing and takes the time to ensure that you learn how to do this right. Very personable and thorough, I have already recommended him to several friends and would never hesitate taking another course with him. Thanks for all of the help Alex!
