This course prepares you for getting your South Carolina CWP as well as possible in a 1-day course, and lays the foundation for further training. The course material takes around 10 hours to present.
You can also use this course to satisfy the training requirement for a Florida non-resident permit, which will allow you to carry in Georgia. Details here.
You will need the following for this course:
- A SAFE functional handgun.
- At least 1 magazine for semi-automatics, but preferably more (up to 5).
- At least 100 rounds of ammunition for your handgun.
- Eye and ear protection.
- A pen and a 1″ 3-ring binder.
- A baseball type cap or a hat with a wide rim.
- A strong side holster (i.e., the holster is on your right side if you are right handed). No cross-draw, shoulder, or small-of-back holsters are allowed on the range because of safety issues.
- A belt for use with your holster. Please note: the belt MUST pass through the belt loops on your pants.
- Lunch, water and snacks.
- Optional: sun block, and bug spray
Loaner equipment (including small caliber handgun and holster) is available by request.
The classroom is climate controlled, but the range is outdoors. Please dress for the weather. Layered clothing is suggested.
Firearms in classroom
Firearms are not allowed in the classroom until authorized by the training instructor. Absolutely no live ammunition or loaded firearms allowed in the classroom! Handguns brought to the range must remain cased or holstered until you are instructed otherwise.
The course fee ($100) includes range fees, targets, handouts, and all course material (except the $50 SLED CWP application fee). Fees are not refundable. If you must cancel, you may take the class anytime within a year. The course fee must accompany your application to reserve your seat in the course. Discounts are available for MCRC members, veterans and active duty service members.
You have up to 3 years after successfully completing this training course to apply for your CWP. SLED will take $50 and 90 days to process your application.
Throughout the course there will be a strong emphasis on gun safety and proper gun handling. Students refusing to follow safe practices as demonstrated in class or who repeatedly handle firearms in an unsafe manner will be expelled, and will not receive a refund. The instructor’s judgment will be final in all cases.
All students will be required to sign a full waiver of liability. To take this course you must not be prohibited by law from owning or handling firearms. Training for Life, LLC reserves the right to refuse any applicants for this training course for any legal reason.
