Around 11 PM, a masked man waving a handgun enters a bar in Rotterdam. Rotterdam is large harbor in The Netherlands. The patrons just raise their eyebrow, shrug their shoulders, and resume talking, drinking beer and generally having a good time. The barman refuses the would-be robber’s demands, and tells him to get out of his bar. As the robber turns and leaves, all of the bar’s male regulars chase him outside. One of them is a marathon runner. They chase the would-be robber, who is still armed, for about 2 kilometers before catching up with him and holding him for police.

To quote the bartender: “Let this be a lesson for the next moron to try this.”

My grandfather was “A Real Rotterdam Citizen”. Knowing him, this story does not surprise me.

the homeowner told police that he ordered the intruder to the floor and fired one shot when the man refused to comply.

The would-be burglar is expected to recover.

around 4:30 p.m Saturday during a live fire portion of the class a student was being shown the proper way to hold her pistol, when the gun fired striking the student standing next to her in the firing in line.

1. Treat every firearm as if it is loaded
2. Always keep the muzzle of the firearm pointed in a safe direction
3. Keep your finger outside the trigger guard until the weapon is pointed at the target and you have decided to fire
4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it

Learn them and live them.

The course will be on Monday, March 19 in the Sumter, SC area, and was tailored specifically for the target audience, incorporating material from various Suarez International carbine classes. Among other things, we will cover the zeroing process, shooting from various positions, proactive and reactive reloads, AR/M4 carbine maintenance, clearing malfunctions, cover and concealment, dealing with close range emergencies, and Foreign Weapons Familiarization (AK).

Given the amount of material on the schedule, the maximum number of students in the class is 5. All students should bring an AR/M4 style carbine and all of the usual support gear for a 1-day carbine class. The round count will be 250-300 rounds.

At the moment, only the 2 students who initially asked for the course signed up for it. They offered this opportunity to other folks in their unit, but apparently it’s more attractive to complain about lack of training than to actually do something about it! The total fee for a private class like this is fixed, so the more students we have the less each one will have to pay.  We’d like to get 5 people signed up to lower the cost per-student and train as many students in these vital skills as possible, so we are spreading the word. If we get 5 students, the course fee will be $240/student.  If we get fewer, the course fee will be somewhat higher.

Gunfights are pass/fail events. In this case, the good guys passed, but they came very close to failing. They could have improved their odds of winning by doing some of the things taught during my CWP and other courses.

Notice the number of criminals involved, and the speed with which they act. They are apparently not concerned with being caught, not only carrying out the attack in full view of the store’s surveillance camera, but even recording their own video which was later posted on a hip hop site.

A 7-year-old Georgia girl managed to scream and kick her way out of a kidnapping attempt in an Atlanta area Wal-Mart by a man out on parole for voluntary manslaughter, authorities said.

Good job.

According to another news article, the voluntary manslaughter conviction stemmed from a plea bargain deal for murdering his uncle. He served 4 years of a 7 year sentence.

Two armed men entered the restaurant and tried to rob it. A customer in the Waffle House, who is a concealed weapon permit holder, was also armed with a handgun and attempted to hold the suspects at gunpoint until law enforcement could arrive, deputies said. Deputies said one of the robbery suspects pointed his gun at the customer, and the customer then shot the man, who died on the scene.

A Gaffney CWP instructor was arrested this January for taking students’ money and not providing the 8-hour training class they paid for. Be careful who you train with:

SLED said that any of Wykel’s students that received their CWPs and did not complete the eight-hour training class are subject to perjury charges as well for falsification of the application process.

The CWP classes taught by Training for Life LLC easily meet the minimum 8-hour requirement, as well as all other SLED requirements.
