Suarez International reloading doctrine

July 13, 2014

One of the elements of Suarez International gunfighting doctrine that tends to cause lots of discussion is the way we encourage students to perform their reloads: by default, we retain the used magazine. There are lots and lots of tacticool guys on the Interwebz who favor playing Hansel and Gretel with used magazines, but as WT member Saladin (who has been there and done that) famously remarked during the subgun class in Prescott: “Ammo don’t come in magazines.”

Without a reliable magazine to feed from, your semi-automatic becomes only slightly more useful than a muzzle-loader. I’m sorry if that hurts the Hansels’ tacticool pride, but that is the truth of the matter. Because the Hansels usually misrepresent what we teach to fit their preconceived notions, I figured I’d post what we teach on this blog. I have also added some personal observations on unexpected benefits of following what we teach.

Close Range Gunfighting course added for October 2014

July 13, 2014

I have been able to add a Close Range Gunfighting 2 class to the schedule on October 4-5! You can find the full details and register on the Suarez International site.

CRG-2 is the class where the rubber really meets the road as far as fighting with a handgun goes. You can find the AAR for the CRG-2 class that JD Lester and I taught on Memorial Day weekend in North Carolina here. As the class descriptions says: “In two days, you will receive more information than most armed professionals ever get.” It’s not bragging if it’s true!

The CRG-2 class description also says “THIS COURSE IS NOT FOR THE NOVICE SHOOTER”. If you have any doubt about your level of preparation for this class, you can come refine your skills in the Advanced CWP Course on September 21, but please know that this class is already over half full by now.

Also, please know that there is still space in the CQB-Fighting in Structures in Columbia that JD and I will be teaching next weekend. So if you’d like to learn this vital skill, here is your chance.

Why politicians love gun control

April 19, 2014

I have suspected for a long time that the real reason politicians support gun control, is because they are afraid of what the taxpayers would do if they found out what they were doing with the power that is entrusted to them. Two weeks ago, four politicians were either arrested or raided by the FBI for various reasons.

It will come as no surprise that all four of them belong to the party that strongly favors gun control. The best example of the four is Leland Yee, a well-known California gun grabber, who was caught on tape offering to smuggle arms. Nice work, Leland!

Think about that next time there is an election.

As a special bonus, I’ll leave you with some tweets from a would-be Democrat congressman from Virginia. Apparently, he has a problem with the NRA, an organization that promotes gun safety and supports ordinary citizens against crooks like him:

the NRA is a god awful fear mongering group and those who support the NRA are pure trash…… If you are a member or supporter of the @NRA I don’t want your support. Joining the @NRA is like joining the crybaby association….. Members of the @NRA have very low IQs. They have a trigger finger mentality.

If he ends up getting elected, we can probably look forward to seeing his arrest as well.

Backstreets Bar & Grill discovers the power of the Internet

March 23, 2014

The story of Backstreets Bar & Grill in Clemson, SC was all over the internet last week. Apparently, its owner decided to post the following extremely ill-advised sign on the front of his establishment:

Backstreets

That final word of the sign is not his signature. Some folks who have a more realistic view of the world, and who were not content with merely not frequenting this establishment, have taken to the Internet and added their comments and photos to the bar’s Yelp page. I have not laughed this hard in a long time.

Hundreds of comments have since been deleted by Yelp, the bar’s Facebook page has been taken down, and the signs have reportedly disappeared. Good work.

Final courses of the Spring season added

March 13, 2014

The last courses of the 2014 spring season have been added to the schedule: There will be a Handgun Proficiency Course Saturday, May 10, and an Advanced CWP course on Sunday, May 18.

Gentlemen, pay attention: This Handgun Proficiency Course is on the day before Mother’s Day, so this would make a great Mother’s Day gift! Handgun safety, handling, and marksmanship will all be covered. Pistols AND revolvers are welcome. Handguns, ammo, holsters, and any other necessary loaner gear can be made available by prior arrangement for any students that don’t have them. This class already has students signed up for it. Remaining space is extremely limited, and will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis.

The Advanced CWP Course is a natural follow-up to a foundational class like Handgun Proficiency or a CWP course. It is designed to give students some tools in their toolkit to use in those situations where marksmanship alone is not enough. This is actually the most probable scenario a CWP holder is likely to face, but it is not addressed at all in the shooting test of a CWP course. Unlike a CWP course, this entire class takes place at the range, without any time spent in the classroom. This course would also serve as a good warm-up for Close Range Gunfighting in Haw River, NC for anyone attending that, and will make that course feel a little bit less like trying to drink from an information fire hose.

The cost of these courses is only $150 before April 1st, and $175 after that. Email alex@trainingforlifellc.com to get the enrollment forms and/or gift certificates.

Karma

February 14, 2014

From Wikipedia:

Karma (Sanskrit: कर्म; IPA: [ˈkarmə] ( listen)Pali: kamma) means action, work or deed;[1] it also refers to the principle of causality where intent and actions of an individual influence the future of that individual.[2] Good intent and good deed contribute to good karma and future happiness, while bad intent and bad deed contribute to bad karma and future suffering.[3][4]

Gun control activist screws up, and gets caught carrying a gun in a gun-free zone, where carrying is now a felony thanks to a pointless gun-control law that this activist helped push. That, my friends, is the finest example of karma I have seen all week.
