South Carolina Long Gun Long Weekend III

November 11, 2012

After the success of the first two South Carolina Long Gun Long Weekends, we have decided to do another one!

I will be teaching it with JD Lester, the Suarez International Staff Instructor for North Carolina. JD has been there and done that, and I’m really looking forward to teaching it with him.

On February 2-3 we will be teaching Rifle Gunfighting and on February 4 Dynamics of the Shotgun

Here is the link to sign up at the Value Class price for the whole long weekend.

In case you’re wondering… Yes, we will be bringing “new generation” SIG 556 and 556R rifles, but you can bring whatever type of Evil Black Rifle you prefer, so come out and join us for some great training.

Demonstrating the difference between cover and concealment:

“I was sitting in the closet really scared holding the gun, not knowing what was going to happen. When he turned the door handle I shot towards him with my mom’s gun and it hit him in the arm,” Kendra St. Clair said.

Beating the Heat and Humidity in the Deep South

August 30, 2012

Life is pretty good, here in Columbia, SC, but during the summer the heat and humidity combine to form conditions that can be dangerous to the ill-prepared. When the summer sun starts beating down, and the humidity makes the air feel like you could cut it with a knife, it’s easy to exceed the body’s capacity to cool itself. When this happens, dehydration, heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke can be the result. None of those are conducive to a good training experience, to put it mildly, so it is important to take good care of yourself.

Dr. Meade already touched on this in his article on what to bring to a gun class, which is recommended reading for anyone attending SI training. However, I thought I’d share some refinements that I’ve made to my heat survival system this summer here.

SIG 556R 24 hour sale

August 28, 2012

Onesource Tactical is having a 24 hour sale on the SIG 556R. This is the rifle that reminds the M4 of what it is not and will never be, and reminds the AK of what it could have been.

The SIG 556R is the answer to those who have wanted accuracy and quality and are frustrated in trying to build an AK that will yield that.  The new SIG 556R is chambered for the 7.62 x 39mm caliber. Using AK magazines, and what is a modified AK operating system, the shooter now has a  refined and accurate shooting machine that uses his existing magazines and ammo, but is a brand new rifle and not something cobbled together in a warehouse from military discards.  The SIG 556R features a distinctive Swiss folding stock, and an M1913 receiver mounted rail for pain-free attachment of any optic.

The 16” barrel features four-groove rifling and a twist rate of 1:9.5”. At its full extension, the SIG556R measures 36” but can fold to 26”, making it ideal for situations where maximum maneuverability is required. For Special Forces requiring an accurate, more potent rifle, chambered in 7.62x39mm, the SIG 556R sets a new standard for dependable operation and function.

Caliber 7.62 X 39 mm
Overall Length 36.1 in
Rifling 1 in 9.5 in
Number of Grooves 4
Barrel Length 16.0 in
Weight w/out Mag 7 lbs 0 oz

I’m getting one. Full details here.

Dynamics of the Shotgun

August 15, 2012

Sunday, November 11: Dynamics of the Shotgun.

Dynamics of the Shotgun is an intensive 1-day course on fighting with a shotgun. This course has nothing to do with hunting or shooting clays. Instead, it presents a reality-based, aggressive, close quarters combative method of deploying pump action and semi-auto shotguns. You will need a pump-action or semi-auto shotgun with a stock (no pistolgrip-only shotguns) to take this course.

SC gunstore owner stops ram raid in progress

August 12, 2012

Ram raiding a North Aiken gunstore while the owner was asleep in his house behind the store probably wasn’t the brightest idea to begin with. Yelling “shoot the (expletive deleted)” when he came out of his house to see what all the commotion was about did not improve the situation. Because the store owner had thought to arm himself first with his SIG 556 SWAT short barreled rifle, and knew how to use it. Oops.

20-year-old K’Raven Goodwin of Eastover, S.C., died from multiple gunshot wounds at the scene, and his two wounded accomplices fled to a nearby Waffle House.

RMR02 sale

August 10, 2012

One Source Tactical has just put the RMR02 8 MOA sight on sale for $425. That is a smoking deal. This is what I have on my RMRed Glock 19, and I’ve been very happy with it.

To mount it on your Glock, you will need to have your slide milled and suppressor sights installed.

To mount it on your Uzi, you will need to have an RMR-ready top cover.
