A Bad Way To Go
On Monday night, a 15 year old and an 18 year old apparently took the screen off a window of a local duplex, snuck inside and beat the owner, a 91 year old decorated WWII veteran, to death. My prayers go out to his family.
Good article by The State here. Update from WLTX here.
So here’s a scenario for you to contemplate: two juvenile delinquents have snuck into your house, and you see them as you look up from the computer you are reading from right now. Is it time for you to show them the error of their ways in the next 2.5 seconds, or did you leave your gun in another room?
Happy Independence Day!
Failure of the Victim Selection Process
Two Memphis criminals picked the wrong victim on Wedsnesday night:
The man, who works for a local gun range, declined comment Friday. He asked that his name not be published because authorities told him the attempted robbery may be gang-related.
The shootout occurred about 10 p.m. Wednesday at the Edgewater Apartments east of Sycamore View and south of Raleigh-LaGrange.
According to Moore, one of the suspects fired at the man during an attempted robbery.
The victim, who was within 3 feet of one robber and about 10 from the other, fired five shots, four of them striking the would-be robbers.
According to the state Department of Public Safety, the potential victim is a licensed handgun permit holder.
Note the distances involved.
Upcoming Training

The date is Saturday, September 18 9 am to 1 pm, but it’s not up on the Suarez International site yet.
Why Carry?
From WLTX:
“She dialed 911 herself, with crushed hands,” said one daughters during a news conference Tuesday, “And all her fingers and hands are crushed.”
“She gave him what he wanted,” said Pritchard’s daughter, “And he still beat her, and certainly tried to kill her.”
This is another clear example showing that being defenseless in the face of evil doesn’t make one safer. It makes one less safe.
The Suarez International Introduction to Defensive Pistol and Defensive Pistol Skills courses will be taught for the first time in the Columbia area this year. The instructors will be Alex Nieuwland (Training for Life) and Chris Upchurch.
