Pastor Welcomes Gun Owners to Bring Their Handguns to Church.
About 200 armed churchgoers were present for the event in Louisville, Ky. Not a single shot was fired.
A coalition of peace and church groups staged a gun-free event across town at the same time.
These “Church groups” might want to check their sources. Jesus sent his disciples out into the world with the words “he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.” (Luke 22:36) The disciples had three swords among them. Apparently, that was not enough.
The Hebrew word used in the original text of the Sixth Commandment refers to killing for personal gain. (See: “On Killing” by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, page 338.) Unfortunately, the King James Version translated this as “Thou shalt not kill.” A more precise translation would have been “Thou shalt not murder.” Modern translations have translated the Sixth Commandment as “You shall not murder.” (Search for Exodus 20:13 on Bible.com to compare the different translations.)
Furthermore, while God hates “hands that shed innocent blood” (Proverbs 6:17), risking your life to save others is commendable: “Greater love has no man than this, that he give his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)
Being a Christian therefore does not mean one cannot be a gun owner, or carry a handgun for self-defense.
