If you’re wondering about sight-in distances for your UZI, read this article I just posted on WarriorTalk News.

Interesting times

January 1, 2013

We are indeed living in interesting times. From a Russian blogger, reprinted in Pravda:

For those of us fighting for our traditional rights, the US 2nd Amendment is a rare light in an ever darkening room. Governments will use the excuse of trying to protect the people from maniacs and crime, but are in reality, it is the bureaucrats protecting their power and position. In all cases where guns are banned, gun crime continues and often increases. As for maniacs, be it nuts with cars (NYC, Chapel Hill NC), swords (Japan), knives (China) or home made bombs (everywhere), insane people strike. They throw acid (Pakistan, UK), they throw fire bombs (France), they attack. What is worse, is, that the best way to stop a maniac is not psychology or jail or “talking to them”, it is a bullet in the head, that is why they are a maniac, because they are incapable of living in reality or stopping themselves.

…..

Do not be fooled by a belief that progressives, leftists hate guns. Oh, no, they do not. What they hate is guns in the hands of those who are not marching in lock step of their ideology. They hate guns in the hands of those who think for themselves and do not obey without question. They hate guns in those whom they have slated for a barrel to the back of the ear.

Ouch.

Happy New Year

Close Range Gunfighting in March 2013

December 31, 2012

Just in time for your New Year’s resolutions: there will be a CRG class in Columbia, SC on March 23-24.

Another shooting

December 25, 2012

There has been another shooting attack, this time in NY. As usual, journalists are falling over themselves to hyperventilate about the guns used. See, for example, this story.

An ex-con killed two firefighters with the same caliber and make military-style rifle used in the Connecticut school massacre….. taking a revolver, a shotgun and a semiautomatic rifle to a sniper position outside…. Police recovered a military-style .223-caliber semiautomatic Bushmaster rifle with flash suppression, the same make and caliber weapon used in the elementary school massacre in Newtown, Conn., that killed 26, including 20 young children.

It turns out, however, that the perpetrator was already unable to legally own firearms, because of his manslaughter conviction for beating his grandmother to death with a hammer. He left a note saying “I still have to get ready to see how much of the neighborhood I can burn down, and do what I like doing best, killing people.”

This does not show that all gun owners are intent on burning their down their neighborhood and murder as many people as possible, because they own guns. This does not show that all Bushmasters, hammers and gasoline should be banned. If anything, this shows the futility of gun control. What stopped the perpetrator from doing more harm was not gun control, but gun fire.

When evil comes for you, what are you going to do about it?

Armed with a pocket knife during the LA riots

December 24, 2012

Learn from the past, or you are doomed to repeat it.

I see it happening. A classic shot unwinding in slow motion: the mob swarms towards the DGA building, towards us: a thick wave of fury marching with a terrible velocity towards this cocoon of—there’s no way around this—Hollywood liberals.

Sheesh, talk about a target-rich environment.

It’s almost funny.

Here we are, inside, raising funds for inner city youth, and —

— and the inner city youth are outside trying to get in.

Not, mind you, to express their ever-lasting appreciation for our spectacular generosity. Nope, hard as it is to believe, but it looks as if the objects of our charity would like to lynch us.

Or maybe burn us to death.

Almost funny. But not quite.

People who deny the existence of evil, despite all the evidence to the contrary, are often its first victims. Sadly, it usually takes a personal experience to get them to pull their head out of the sand:

If the Los Angeles riots taught us anything, it’s that you’re a fool if you count on the authorities to protect you in times of civil chaos — in fact, at any time. In the end, only I can protect my family.

I guess it all comes down to this: if you choose to be defenseless in the face of evil, that’s fine by me. Really. It’s your life. You can make it a success or an utter failure. The choice is yours. Just don’t require me to share your fate.

Some good questions

December 24, 2012

LawDog asks some good questions:

How would taking my guns away from me have stopped what happened in Connecticut? I’m not talking generalities here; I’m not speaking about large groups of Americans — I’m speaking about me, myself — in person and specifically. If you were somehow able to go back in time to last week and seize all of my guns — how would that have stopped what happened? All right, I’ll go you one better: suppose you could have seized all of my guns and all of Phlegmmy’s, too. How would taking every gun in my house have stopped what happened in Connecticut? How would taking all of mine and Phlegmmy’s guns have prevented that tragedy? Now. Do you honestly believe that my name will ever come up as a mass murderer at a school in the future? So why do you want to take my guns?

Journalists endanger legal gun owners

December 24, 2012

Just in case you’re not fully aware yet that what we’re seeing now is an attack on legal gun owners perpetrated by journalists and democrat politicians, check this out: Newspaper Publishes Names and Addresses of NY Gun Owners

As of right now, the newspaper has not apologized for putting these legal gun owners in danger, and the map is still active.

I believe SC has legislation to prevent this kind of shenanigans, or The State would probably be all over this.

Unsuitable for dinnertime conversation

December 24, 2012

I consider the topic of gun control unsuitable for dinnertime conversation during this happy time of year. However, should you want to arm yourself with some facts read this.

Just don’t be surprised when facts get you absolutely nowhere with emotional, scared people who want you to be just as helpless as they are.

Merry Christmas!
