Valentine’s Day Shoot
Xavier takes a seasoned citizen to the range:
I would not want to be at the other end of Doc’s revolver. He is a man of conviction, purpose and uncommon wisdom. Although the bulls eye laughed at him today, I have no doubt that Doc would not go down without a fight if he or his Gertie were threatened. Such is often the case with old men who have lived and loved long. They are the last victim a criminal would want to tangle with once the playing field is leveled with a gun.
Criminals deem seniors easy prey. Prove them wrong. Protect yourself and the ones you love. Carry.
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Training for Life!
May your new year be healthy and safe, and may you always remember the Four Rules.
The Four Rules of Firearm Safety
1. Treat all guns as if they are loaded.
2. Never point the muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy.
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire.
4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
Then said he unto them, …. and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
Luke 22:36 (Jesus sending the disciples out on their own)
Stopping Power
LawDog meditates on stopping power:
It doesn’t matter how big a hole the bullet makes … if you don’t carry the gun that fires it.
It doesn’t matter how fast that bullet is going … if you never practice with the gun that fires it.
If you are fighting for your life, having a gun and knowing how to use it vastly improves your chances of survival. A 9 mm mouse gun like the Kahr PM9 in your pocket will do, provided you are proficient with it. If that’s still too big, a .22 mini-revolver in your pocket will have to do, provided you have practiced with it. The .45 MasterBlaster in your safe that you never carry because it’s too heavy and never fire because it’s too expensive, however, will merely make a nice heirloom.
Steer into the skid
Tam on being prepared:
If you live in a place that allows you to legally carry a concealed weapon, do so. If you have a CCW permit, use it. Don’t say things like “Oh, I’m not going anyplace dangerous…” Places aren’t dangerous, people are; there’s no magic fence around anyplace you’re going that will keep the dangerous people out.
Read the whole thing. You’ll be glad you did.
Why Carry?
Why carry? Because armed police, even when present, may not protect you and your loved ones:
But what angered Mr D’Souza almost as much were the masses of armed police hiding in the area who simply refused to shoot back. “There were armed policemen hiding all around the station but none of them did anything,” he said. “At one point, I ran up to them and told them to use their weapons. I said, ‘Shoot them, they’re sitting ducks!’ but they just didn’t shoot back.”
…
What is the point if having policemen with guns if they refuse to use them? I only wish I had a gun rather than a camera.”
Indian civilians were disarmed by the British and have not had their rights restored since gaining independence, a fact that Oleg Volk coincidentally highlighted recently.
Fortunately, South Carolinians still have the right to self defense and legal access to the best tools for self defense. Do you think Mr. D’Souza saw this coming when he woke up that morning? Get a gun. Get training. Carry your gun. Be prepared.

PPOH now available
Personal Protection Outside the Home (PPOH) has now been added to the Training for Life, LLC courses.
The NRA course outline defines the PPOH course goal as follows: “To develop in the students the knowledge, skills, and attitude essental for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective, and responsible use of a concealed handgun for self-defense outside the home.”
PPOH builds on the skills taught in Personal Protection Inside the Home.
The next PPOH course will be offered when there is enough interest from qualified students. Contact alex@trainingforlifellc.com to get on the list.
When Seconds Count…
When seconds count, police are only minutes away.
Money quotes from this television report:
The psychological profile of a mass murderer indicates he is looking to inflict the most casualties as quickly as possible. Also, the data show most active killers have no intention of surviving the event. They may select schools and shopping malls because of the large number of defenseless victims and the virtual guarantee no on the scene one is armed.
As soon as they’re confronted by any armed resistance, the shooters typically turn the gun on themselves.
…
We also conducted our own analysis of mass murders in the U.S. The vast majority occurred in schools or on college campuses where firearms are banned as a matter of state statutes. Others took place in post offices where firearms are banned as a matter of federal law. Most of the rest took place in shopping malls or other businesses where the owners posted signs prohibiting firearm possession by anyone including those with CCW permits.
…
As journalists, we are not interested in entering into the heated debate over gun control. We are, however, interested in reporting the facts. In this story, the facts point to the active shooters ignoring gun prohibitions and perhaps selecting those locations because they are “soft targets” where no resistance would be found.
Kudos to the reporters at WCPO for actually reporting the facts. Disarming well-trained, responsible gun owners to create target-rich “gun-free zones” makes no rational sense whatsoever.

Personal Protection in the Home
On Halloween, a registered sex offender with 11 felony arrests and five convictions re-targets a 57 year old woman he had raped just 5 days earlier. She had borrowed a shotgun for protection and knew how to use it. His death will be ruled a justifiable homicide and no charges will be filed. Massad Ayoob would call it “Cause of death: sudden and acute failure of the victim selection process.”

This site keeps an eye on crime in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. Note how many of the criminals who end up on this site are “frequent flyers.” It would be helpful to have a site like this for the Columbia, SC area.
