More media ignorance antidote

September 18, 2013

Larry Correia (Utah carry permit instructor and author of the excellent MHI series) has taken it upon himself to write a response to the recent media ignorance. Read it here.

I expect the media ignorance to get worse still, before they will be forced to let go of the issue again. Why a crazy man doing crazy things should have dire consequences for the ability of sane people to do sane things, is still quite beyond me.

Judge Felon’s Friend update

September 3, 2013

Charleston Thug Life has an update on one of the recipients of Judge Thomas “Felon’s Friend” Hughston’s generosity:

The victim, Michael Jeffery Knight, also has a history of weapon possession. Back in April of 2009 he was charged in Charleston county with Possession of a Firearm During a Crime, Armed Robbery, and Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol. In April of 2010 the 9th Circuit Solicitor dismissed the Possession of a Firearm During a Crime and the Armed Robbery charge in exchange for a guilty plea to Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol.

You know, it seems to us like a right thinking solicitor would try to get a plea to the most serious charge, to wit, the armed robbery. Not that Scarlett Wilson crew, though. They like to drop the two most serious charges in exchange for a guilty plea to the least serious.

Judge Thomas “Felon’s Friend” Hughston sentenced Knight to one year, suspended in favor of 21 days time served and 1 year of probation.

The suspect in this homicide case had been previously arrested on the charge of carrying a concealed pistol, but was only sentenced to 23 days time served.

I know this gas station well. The area behind it has always struck me as a particularly good spot to get assaulted.

Murderers of 88-year old veteran caught

August 28, 2013

From the UK’s Daily Mail:

Glenn faces a first-degree murder charge and one count of robbery. The local station KHQ reported that he will be tried as an adult.

The teen has an extensive juvenile criminal history, which includes malicious mischief, fourth-degree assault, driving without a license and riot with a deadly weapon charges.

Adams-Kinard also has had a few run-ins with the law, The Spokesman Review reported. He was convicted of third-degree theft and fourth-degree assault in June.

Why am I not surprised? I guess Spokane, WA also has its Felon’s Friend judges.

For someone to survive fighting the Japanese on the beaches of Okinawa, and then to be beaten to death by to young thugs in some American parking lot does not seem right at all. Sadly, neither thug will face the death penalty.

Judge Felon’s Friend

August 26, 2013

Here’s a nugget from the Charleston Post & Courier in an article trying to defend Judge Thomas “Felon’s Friend” Hughston:

So, in most cases, Hughston offers advice to criminals, as he did recently with a man who pleaded guilty to having a gun during a traffic stop.

“What I keep telling people like you is if you think you’re going to go somewhere where you think you may need a pistol, don’t go,” Hughston said, shaking his head. “Stay home. Go to the picture show. Go play basketball or baseball.”

And with that, he let the man go free.

Nice! There is nothing illegal about having a gun in your car during a traffic stop, as long as it is in one of the legally approved locations in your car. The fact that “pleaded guilty to having a gun during a traffic stop” leads me to believe this was probably a felon with a gun. And this judge just let him go?????? No wonder Charleston Thug life has given him the Felon’s Friend moniker.

But wait! There’s more:

Hughston, 70, placed more than twice as many offenders on probation than he sent to prison, nearly half of all his cases.

So if you plead guilty, and Judge Felon’s Friend is in charge of sentencing you, you have a better chance of remaining a free man than of going to prison for your crimes. Too bad this has NO positive influence on crime rates or law-abiding citizens at all.

With each case, Hughston said, he tries to learn as much as he can about the players involved, the lives they have led and what led them to his courtroom so he can impose a sentence that he considers meaningful and fair.

“The most important thing that a decision-maker can do, a judge can do, is to ask the right question,” he said. “Through those questions you create the scene of the crime.”

So if you have a sob story, your chances are even better that you’ll be let off. Again: Too bad this has NO positive influence on crime rates or law-abiding citizens at all.

Read Charleston Thuglife to get a feel for the people Jude Felon’s Friend is letting off so easily.

S&W Shield recall

August 23, 2013

Smith & Wesson has identified a condition where the trigger bar pin could damage the lower trigger in certain M&P Shields in a way that may affect the functionality of the drop safety feature of the firearm, potentially allowing the pistol to discharge if it is dropped.

Any unintended discharge of a firearm has the potential to cause injury, and we ask that you STOP USING YOUR PISTOL IMMEDIATELY UNTIL IT HAS BEEN INSPECTED AND, IF THE CONDITION IS FOUND, REPAIRED.
