Illinois carry permit applications

January 16, 2014

Last year, Illinois lawmakers finally decided to provide a way for ordinary citizens to carry concealed handguns for protection. The Quincy Journal reports that 22,000 applications were filed within the first 2 weeks. Of course, South Carolina permits are still not honored in Illinois, and most likely will never be honored. However, Illinois does allow for non-resident permit applications, so if you have reason to spend time in Illinois on a regular basis that is something to consider.

Ammo update

January 15, 2014

For the past year or so, my favorite 9 mm practice ammo (115 gr CCI Blazer aluminum case) has been almost entirely unavailable. I don’t reload 9 mm, so there is little point in paying a premium for the brass cases. Recently, a large shipment must have arrived in the country, because both Natchezss and Midway now have it in stock. Natchezss is selling it at $15.49 per box (which seems excessive), but Midway is listing it at a much more reasonable $12.99 or $238.99 for 1000. I predict that this will sell very well.

Conversations from the gun counter

January 15, 2014

Me: this is the most 9 mm I’ve seen in this store for a very long time

Clerk: Yes, and there’s more still. That box contains 9 mm NATO, but it’s longer than 9 mm Luger so it may not fit in your clip.

Me: That is not correct. 9 mm NATO has the same length as 9 mm Luger. It’s just slightly more powerful.

Clerk: No it isn’t. It’s longer so it won’t fit your clip.

Me: OK, whatever.

******************

Remember, folks: just because someone works behind the gun counter does not make them an expert on guns. I’ve shot plenty of 9 mm NATO, and it is NOT longer than 9 mm Luger. They have the same case dimensions (9 mm at the mouth and 19 mm long), but a different maximum allowed pressure. 9 mm NATO should only be used in guns that are rated for that higher pressure. Consult the gun’s manual to find out that information.

Oh, and unless you are rapping the correct term is magazine, not clip.

Denver PD resolves hostage situation effectively

January 14, 2014

Perhaps the perpetrator did not have enough money to buy some chronic? Regardless of his reasons, robbing a convenience store and taking hostages is not a very bright idea. Good job, Denver PD! Full story here.

Final suspect sentenced in Carter Strange beating

January 10, 2014

From The State:

Nettles sentenced the 19-year-old Gantt to 10 years in prison on charges of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, robbery and criminal conspiracy. Gantt will get credit for time served. He has been in jail awaiting trial since his arrest in June 2011.

According to the prosecutor, video footage showed the group following other people while looking for a victim. Eventually, they managed to corner Carter Strange, who has not been the same since.

Squash suppressor in Charleston

January 9, 2014

From WYFF4.com:

Investigators say a person suspected of robbing a Charleston County gas station used a squash to silence shots fired at the business.

Soon, I expect that “reasonable voices” will be calling for squash control to protect Americans from the dangers of unregulated squash.

PTR about to start production in SC

January 8, 2014

From Fox News:

“The welcoming has been tremendous. People on the street, cashiers at the gas station or the pizza place, or even TSA agents, they know who we are and they’re happy to have us. In Connecticut, we always felt like a dirty little secret. Down there, it’s very much the opposite.”

Detroit police chief: Legal gun owners can deter crime

January 6, 2014

From The Detroit News:

There’s a number of CPL (concealed pistol license) holders running around the city of Detroit. I think it acts as a deterrent. Good Americans with CPLs translates into crime reduction. I learned that real quick in the state of Maine.

For the Police Chief of Detroit to say this is nothing short of amazing. Of course, much of Detroit now looks like this, so I guess he really needs all the help he can get:

For the highest-priority crimes, Detroit police take about 58 minutes, on average, to answer 911 calls.

Apparently, people are calling their friends instead of calling 911.

Now is the time to buy!

January 5, 2014

I was at Palmetto State Armory the other day, and their shelves were once again fully filled for the first time in a year. They had a Kriss rifle AND a Kriss pistol, an ultra-rare Steyr AUG A3 NATO, two POFs, an ultra-rare Keltec KSG, a SIG 556R SWAT, a SIG 556 pistol, a SIG 716, etc, etc. What’s more, when I returned a few days later, all of those guns were still there! So NOW is the time to buy. Don’t wait for the next panic to start. Buy now.

Here are a few good items to start your own personal shopping spree with….

.38 Special +P DPX ammoThis is quite possibly the best .38 Special ammo on the market, and I think the price is really good for what it is. I’d buy every available box of it myself, but my .38 Special J-frame revolver is older and cannot use +P ammo 😦

The best AR magazines on the market. These were either unavailable or going for $25 each 12 months ago. Now you can have as many as you want for only $12 each.

Steyr AUG A3. This rifle is already banned in multiple states because it’s Just Too Scary. Comes with five 30 round magazines and five 42 round magazines for extra scariness.

Merry Christmas!

I’d like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
